When God's People Pray

Scripture: Acts 4:23-31

Meditation:
“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.” Steps to Christ, p. 93_

The Grand Banquet

Scripture: Luke 14:16-24

Meditation:

“The Communion service points to Christ’s second coming. It was designed to keep this hope vivid in the minds of the disciples. Whenever they met together to commemorate His death, they recounted how “He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” In their tribulation they found comfort in the hope of their Lord’s return. Unspeakably precious to them was the thought, “As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till He come.” 1 Cor. 11:26." - Desire of Ages, p. 659

Why Wait

Scripture: Romans 6:3-5

Meditation:
All who live have sins to wash away. . . True repentance of sin, faith in
the merits of Jesus Christ, and baptism into His death, to be raised out of
the water to live a new life, are the first steps in the new birth which
Christ told Nicodemus he must experience in order to be saved. The words of
Christ to Nicodemus are not only spoken to him, but to every man, woman, and
child, that should live in the world. . . We are safe in following the
example of Christ. Lift Him Up, p. 79

Seven Churches pt. 7 - Laodicea

Scripture: Revelation 3:14-22

Meditation: “Even more than God abhors infidelity, He abhors indifference in religious
matters, because religious pretention without genuine religion is a
continual stumbling block to sinners. The more cold and formal men are in
the religious life, the more they are filled with egotism, and egotism
always works against Christ. You may have much knowledge, but unless you are
the possessor of true, pure religion, your knowledge is worthless to Christ.
Every soul may become rich in spiritual treasures.” Lift Him Up, p. 229

Seven Churches pt. 6 - Philadelphia

text: Revelation 3:7-13

*Meditation: *

“Jesus gained the victory through submission and faith in God, and by the apostle He says to us, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” James 4:7, 8. We cannot save ourselves from the tempter’s power; he has conquered humanity, and when we try to stand in our own strength, we shall become a prey to his devices; but “the name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Prov. 18:10. Satan trembles and flees before the weakest soul who finds refuge in that mighty name." – Desire of Ages p. 130, 131
